Here at DRS, we are delighted to have completed a building services contract that will maintain the high safety standards expected by visitors and staff at Swansea Waterfront Museum safe.

The seven-week long project included completing an Electrical Installation Condition Report for the electrical installation in the museum. This work is to make sure that the electrical installation is to current electrical regulations and is in a safe and usable condition, carrying out remedial works as necessary.

We also completed a Thermal Imaging Report of the premises, a non-invasive method of identifying moisture intrusion, energy loss and hotspots within a large building. Finally, an asset register was complete to track the electrical components and track their maintenance.

Swansea Waterfront Museum welcomes more than 250,000 visitors through its doors annually from all over the UK. The work means that the museum will be a safe place for visitors to enjoy and staff to work once lockdown is lifted.

While carrying out such, work, all our staff adhere to a range of safety measures and always follow government guidelines throughout including new Site Operating Procedures (SOP) developed by the UK government in the context of the COVID-19 crisis and which align with guidance from Public Health Wales.

Mark Phillips, our managing director, said:

“It was fantastic to be working inside one of Swansea’s landmark buildings and biggest tourist attractions to complete this critical work that will ensure the museum continues to be a safe place to work and visit in the future.”

While all businesses have experienced challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, here at DRS we are proud to have been able to continue to support clients of all types – keeping their buildings, facilities and people safe at all times.

In the case of St Michael’s School in Llanelli, we have recently completed an array of maintenance work, checks and upgrades to ensure pupils and teachers attending and working at the school are safe. While many of the school’s functions have been closed due to the pandemic, it has remained open for keyworker families and home to a small number of boarding pupils throughout the crisis.

As part of our brief, we worked around these individuals safely while preparing the whole school for re-opening in the near future. The school educates 420 pupils.

The school is an important piece of the educational landscape in Carmarthenshire contributing to the local economy. Pupils from all over the world travel to the school, which has an excellent track record and achieves consistently above-average results.

Our work at St Michael’s School included checking all gas installations and updating where necessary, completing Electrical Installation Condition Report for all appliances in the school, installing new distribution boards where required, and upgrading power supplies with high level catenary wire/SWA supply cables.

While carrying out such, work, all our staff adhere to a range of safety measures and always follow government guidelines throughout including new Site Operating Procedures (SOP) developed by the UK government in the context of the COVID-19 crisis and which align with guidance from Public Health England.

Benson Ferrari, headmaster of St Michael’s School, said:

“We were delighted to work with DRS and found them to be very understanding of our setting and the precautions needed. They were responsive and communicated well throughout the works. We have been very satisfied with the standard of their work.”

Mark Phillips, our managing director, said:

“Here at DRS we have worked throughout this crisis, supporting our clients in every way we can while also adjusting our working practices to follow government guidelines. We were delighted to have been able to help such a prestigious institution as St Michael’s to ensure that its facilities are completely safe for pupils at all times when it reopens after the pandemic.”

The Issue

It has long been known that exposure to outdoor air pollution can negatively impact on health and now there is growing awareness of the risks linked to exposure to indoor pollutants.

We can spend an average of 85% of our time indoors and as we reduce energy wastage and make our buildings more airtight, our indoor man-made environments can provide optimum conditions for infectious micro organisms to multiply.

The DRS Solution

DRS works with our environment partners to optimise clean air within the workplace and homes. By boosting air flow, heat circulation is improved and condensation reduced.

We also work closely with partners, to provide independently tested specialist systems to reduce allergens such as dust, pollen and VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) through filter less “Advanced Hydrated Photo Catalytic Oxidation” (AHPCO) technology. These systems are based on technology originally developed by NASA to purify the air in space shuttles.

The combination of these advances and DRS’ installation expertise means you can be confident that clean air can circulate in your buildings.

We have installed over 100 Electric Vehicle charges to commercial and domestic premises, providing fast, secure charging facilities to Electric Vehicle owners.

The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) is a team working across government to support the early market for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEV).

OLEV are providing over £900 million to position the UK at the global forefront of ULEV development, manufacture and use. This will contribute to economic growth and will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution on our roads.

The Issue

The environmental quality of premises is an essential part of health and well-being for employees, tenants, home owners, drivers and passengers.

The Welsh Government has published the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act and although only public bodies are bound by the Act, its aim is to actively involve other sectors and individuals.

The DRS solution

In association with our partners, we have developed services that will improve well-being in domestic and commercial premises. They include the design and installation of:

Monitoring and measurement systems – Reviewing energy usage and environmental conditions.

Condition reporting – Reporting on energy survey findings, environmental conditions, and environmental quality and cost reduction strategies.

Air filtration and purification systems – Reducing harmful airborne contaminants such as harmful gases and particulates and improving Oxygen to CO2 levels.

Lighting – Reducing energy usage whist improving light quality, in line with natural circadian rhythms, even at individual work space levels if required.

Environmental comfort – Control all building services and building automation, down to individual work space levels.

All our services are designed to lift the burden of installation and building improvements, so that clients can focus on delivery.

Down to Earth is an award-winning social enterprise offering a diverse range of activities for all age groups and levels of ability.

The activity centre was developed on cutting-edge, sustainably developed small holdings using an eco-construction system of timber framing, straw bale and earth building as well as dry stone walling. It needed specialists to ensure the building would be able to perform.

The DRS Solution

Our teams provided the electrical services installation including mains distribution, lighting and emergency lighting and local power, allowing the project to succeed as planned. We also provided electric vehicle charging points to help reduce vehicle emissions in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

We bring a wealth of expertise to ensure that innovative buildings will work for the benefit of all.

The Issue

Reducing vehicle exhaust emissions is an essential element of improving air quality. The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) is providing over £900 million to position the UK at the global forefront of ULEV development, manufacture and use.

OLEV is working across government to support the early market for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEV). This will contribute to economic growth and will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.

Organisations need to quickly establish the capability to support the take up of low emission vehicles, with the installation of charging facilities in demand at homes as well as businesses.
