DRS join the Buildforce Alliance
We, DRS, along with sister companies RDM and EFT, are very proud to have signed the Buildforce Charter and become a partner of the BuildForce Alliance, where we will provide mentoring, work placements and job opportunities for ex-service personnel seeking careers in the construction industry and wider built environment.
Buildforce is a nationwide initiative designed as a mutually beneficial collaboration between ex-military service personnel and organisations within the construction industry. The initiative promotes these sectors to service leavers and veterans connecting them to construction careers through a UK-wide Alliance of employers, industry bodies and charities, and is supported by UK Government.
The aim of Buildforce is to reduce identifiable skills gaps within the construction industry and improve employment opportunities for ex-service personnel.
The holistic scheme offers a variety of services focused on employment, education and mental health for service leavers and veterans. Its employment programme centres around a unique career programme led by industry via mentoring, work placements, site visits and job opportunities.
Its education programme is a partnership with The University College of Estate Management, providing bespoke industry modules, which also offer certification and a place on a degree course for onward learning. The programme includes mental healthsupport, providing a suite of wellbeing and stress management training and additional 1-2-1 counselling to ex-service men and women.
By signing up to the Buildforce Charter, DRS – along with RDM and EFT – are now part of the Buildforce Alliance, whose aim is to inspire, engage and enable ex-military personnel to effectively transition to sustainable employment in the construction industry.
Mark Phillips, our Managing Director here at DRS, has been appointed Buildforce Champion for the organisation, a role which makes him the main contact between DRS and Buildforce. Dave Kieft, CEO of RD Group, is the group’s Buildforce Ambassador, a role that sees him promote Buildforce to other organisations within the industry.
Mark Phillips, Managing Director at DRS and Buildforce Champion, said:
“This is a great initiative, and I am very happy to be appointed Buildforce Champion for our organisation. The scheme is a mutually beneficial one which allows us to offer training and employment opportunities to ex-service men and women.
“The skills that many of these individuals have acquired during their time in service are often transferable to a career in the construction industry and, here at DRS, we are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity to mentor and develop keen and talented people, opening the door to a successful future career in the sector.”
Caroline Logan, BuildForce programme director, added:
“I am delighted DRS has signed the BuildForce charter, a pledge of their support to BuildForce and our wider Armed Forces community. They have got off to a fantastic start with Mark mentoring one of our veterans who is looking to get into the FM space.
I look forward to working with DRS and growing our relationship with the wider business and more importantly providing further opportunities for our military personnel. Welcome onboard!!”
